The U3-IrDA USB Infrared is a USB to IrDA adapter to allow users to transfer high speed wireless data between any PC and any IrDA capable device such as PDA Digital computers, MP3 players or other IrDA enabled devices. REAL CUSTOMER APPLICATIONS
1. Use this USB IrDA adapter to upload / edit mobile phone logo? - by Allcam technical department
- Logomanger was downloaded from the internet; the testing computer is a Compaq Deskpro PII 400 with 128 MB RAM running Windows XP pro; the mobile phone used was Nokia 6210.
- First I insert the USB IrDA adaptor in one of the USB port, it was immediately recognised by Windows XP and installed automatically and ready to use in a few seconds;
- Then I open the Infra option of the Nokia 6210, and place it close to the IrDA adapter, Windows XP also detect it immediately, the message box say "Another computer Nokia 6210 in range" then it show the two infra red devices are communicating.
- Then I install the Logomanager just downloaded from the internet yesterday, during the installation, there reach a page to test the Infra red device, I press the "test" button, and the "Logomanger" also recognised the Nokia 6210
in around 30sec. I opted to run the "Logomanager" after installation, and draw a smile face, and upload it to the mobile phone as the new logo, thesmile face appeared in the screen in a few seconds. But my friend does not
like this new logo, so I have to go to the "Tools" menu again, select the "Restore the default logo", then select " Restart the mobile". The mobilephone shut down and restart automatically, and the computer show a warning
message during the period, the default logo of the Shaking hand of Nokia appeared again.
3.Use U-3 USB IrDA adapter to send Email via mobile phone

- I attached the USB adapter to my laptop and the laptop immediately recognised the adapter (Windows XP).
I did not need to load any drivers.
In order to use my mobile phone/s to communicate with the laptop:
I then set up a new modem connection on my laptop via Control Panel rating the modem at 9600 bps, i.e. the rating for a modem in a mobile phone that has a built in modem.
I then switched on the phone (Siemens S25), set with the IrDA active, and then sent myself a test e-mail using the mobile phone. When the Dial-up-Connection Box appears at dial up there is a choice of ISPs available. In my case Nildram, or my new connection which I called Nildram (mobile phone).
The test send, obviously slow at 9600 bps, went beautifully.
I then repeated the test with my Ericsson T28 mobile phone with the infrared modem, which with this phone is a bolt on attachment. Using the same modem connection that I had previously set up, it again went first time. In this instance I did not even need to set the IrDA to active on the phone. The test message went before I remembered to do so. In neither case did I need to install any drivers for the phones.
All in all, excellent.
